About Adnan Rashid

Ustadh Adnan Rashid is a historian from London. He specialises in Islamic history. Adnan Rashid has also attained a number of ijazas in hadith sciences from reputable hadith authorities. He attained his BA with honors in history from Birkbeck College, University of London. He completed his Masters in history from the School of Oriental and African Studies, London. He is a peer reviewed scholar and his research has been published by The Royal Asiatic Society (Cambridge University). The Ustadh has taught seerah, tafseer, hadith and history to hundreds of students through social media, tv and other platforms.
 
The Ustadh takes a keen interest in comparative religion and has had high profile interfaith dialogues internationally.
 
Ustadh Adnan Rashid is an Islamic numismatist (coins specialist) as well as a bibliophile (book collector). He has inherited a vast library of historical manuscripts from his ancestors and is himself a deeply interested researcher into Islamic heritage. He has been collecting historical manuscripts from the Indian subcontinent on hadith, tafseer, history and poetry. He has authored a short book (Convivencia: the Making of the Muslim Civilisation) on the history of Islam and is currently working on the expanded second edition.
 
The Ustadh has lectured/debated internationally at renowned universities such as the American University of Beirut (Lebanon); the University of Warsaw (Poland); the Trinity College Dublin (Ireland); the NUST University (Pakistan) etc. In Britain, the Ustadh has lectured for Student Islamic Societies in most major universities.
 
Ustadh Adnan Rashid loves museums and travelling. He has visited some the most wonderful historical sites in the world on his travels. Some of the sites he has visited are Nabatean remains in Petra (Jordan), Ottoman monuments in Turkey, Mughal architecture in Pakistan, Greek/Roman remains in Greece.
 
He currently resides in London with his family.

Itinerary

Day 1Arrive Marrakech

Upon arrival you will make your way to the hotel and check in. In the evening there will be a introduction and briefing.

Day 2Marrakech

After breakfast we will experience the rich history and vibrant culture of Marrakech on a full-day exploration of the city’s most significant sites, markets, and landmarks.

– **Koutoubia Mosque:** Start with a visit to Marrakech’s largest mosque, an architectural marvel from the 12th century, symbolizing the city’s Islamic traditions.
– **Bahia Palace:** Explore this 19th-century palace showcasing opulent Moroccan and Islamic architecture.
– **Mellah:** Visit the historic Jewish quarter, including the Lazama Synagogue, and learn about the Jewish community’s contributions to Marrakech.
– **Lunch:** Enjoy a traditional meal at a Moroccan restaurant.
– **Medina:** Wander through this UNESCO World Heritage site, a lively maze of souks reflecting Marrakech’s trading and cultural history.
– **Ben Youssef Madrasa:** Admire the intricate design of this 14th-century Islamic college, a former center of learning and spirituality.
– **Jemaa el-Fnaa:** Experience the vibrant heart of Marrakech with its evening cultural performances and food stalls.

Conclude the day with dinner at a rooftop restaurant overlooking Jemaa el-Fnaa, reflecting on the rich heritage and cultural experiences of Marrakech.

Return to the hotel and overnight.

Day 3Marrakech-Casablanca-Fez

After breakfast we will be departing early from Marrakech. The journey to Casablanca, Morocco’s largest city and economic hub, offers scenic views along the way and takes approximately three hours.

Upon arrival in Casablanca, head straight to the magnificent Hassan II Mosque, one of the largest mosques in the world. This architectural marvel is notable for its stunning location on the Atlantic coast, with part of the mosque built over the ocean. A guided tour will allow you to explore the intricacies of the mosque, learn about its history and construction, and understand the cultural significance it holds. Marvel at the intricate mosaics, marble floors, and the impressive minaret, which is the tallest in the world.

After a delightful lunch at a local restaurant in Casablanca, where you can savor traditional Moroccan cuisine, continue your journey to Fez. This drive takes around four hours, giving you ample time to relax and enjoy the changing landscapes of Morocco.

Upon arrival in Fez, check into your hotel and take some time to settle in and freshen up. In the evening, you have the option to explore the bustling streets of the ancient medina of Fez, known for its labyrinthine alleys, vibrant markets, and historic architecture. Alternatively, you can relax at the hotel and enjoy a leisurely dinner, reflecting on the day’s experiences.

Fez, often referred to as the cultural and spiritual heart of Morocco, promises a wealth of historical and cultural treasures that you will explore in the coming days. This journey from Marrakech to Fez via Casablanca offers a perfect mix of modern marvels and traditional charm, setting the stage for the rich historical explorations ahead.

Day 4Fez

After breakfast, begin your full day of sightseeing in Fes. Start your day by visiting the historic Medina of Fes, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the world’s largest car-free urban areas. Explore the narrow winding streets, bustling markets, and ancient buildings.

Next, enter the famous Al-Qarawiyyin Mosque, one of the oldest universities in the world, and marvel at its beautiful architecture and serene atmosphere. Continue your exploration of the Medina by visiting the tanneries of Fes, where you can witness the traditional process of leather production and see the vibrant dyeing vats.

Enjoy a lunch break at a local restaurant, sampling delicious Moroccan cuisine and traditional dishes. After lunch, resume your tour and visit the Mellah, the historic Jewish Quarter of Fes. Explore the synagogues, walk through the narrow streets, and learn about the history and cultural significance of the Jewish community in Fes.

Visit the stunning Bab Boujloud, the famous Blue Gate that serves as an entrance to the Medina. Admire its intricate blue tile work and capture memorable photos. Then, explore the fascinating Bou Inania Madrasa, an architectural masterpiece showcasing intricate Moroccan craftsmanship and stunning geometric designs.

Day 5Fez-Chefchaouen-Tangiers

After breakfast, start your day with an early departure from Fez, heading north towards the picturesque town of Chefchaouen, also known as the “Blue Pearl” of Morocco. The journey offers stunning views of the Moroccan landscape, gradually transitioning into the unique charm of Chefchaouen’s blue-washed buildings and serene atmosphere.

Upon arrival in Chefchaouen, take some time to immerse yourself in the town’s enchanting beauty. Enjoy a leisurely lunch at a local restaurant, where you can savor traditional Moroccan dishes while soaking in the picturesque surroundings. Chefchaouen’s cuisine is renowned for its fresh, locally sourced ingredients and delightful flavors, making for a memorable dining experience.

After lunch, embark on a walking tour of Chefchaouen. Wander through the narrow, winding streets of the medina, lined with blue-painted houses, vibrant shops, and cozy cafes. Visit Plaza Uta el-Hammam, the town’s main square, where you can relax and enjoy a cup of mint tea while absorbing the relaxed atmosphere. Don’t miss the chance to explore the serene Ras El Maa Waterfall, a short walk from the medina, where both locals and visitors come to unwind.

Alternatively, discover the historic medina of Tangier, with its narrow streets, bustling markets, and rich history. If you prefer, unwind at the hotel and enjoy a relaxing dinner, reflecting on the day’s journey.

Day 6Depart Tangiers

After breakfast we will check out of the hotel and head to the ferry port and cross over to Spain.
